Dharma and Astrology

Dharma and Astrology

Dear friend’s if you all really want to know and understand the cause behind all your problems, then please read this article carefully and completely. Believe me; 20 minutes reading of this article would give you such a deep understanding of life and that too systematically which you all may never get anywhere else. I know you all will say that Nikhil, from where do you get this confidence to make such monumental claims, which no school or institution in this world can even think off. So dear all Just remember that your friend Nikhil may not be important but the concepts meticulously listed in this article are definitely very much important.

Dear Readers, till date your friend Nikhil has written several articles on various occult subjects like Vedic Astrology, Palmistry, Numerology, Face Reading, Handwriting Reading, Dream Reading and Vastu Shastra and you all must be thinking that, how come Nikhil has suddenly decided to write on Dharma or religion.  Well the reason is simple:

Dharma or religion (whether it’s Hindu religion or Christianity or Islam or Buddhism or any other religion) is the life line of the whole world’s population. So much so that people who believe that they don’t follow any dharma or religion ALSO indirectly have some or the other beliefs which someone else could name as some form of dharma or religion. It’s really an irony that Dharma or religion is not only the most followed worldwide phenomenon but at the same time, it’s the most controversial as well. Why controversial, because 100’s of wrong doings/riots/fights/conflicts/cheating cases/frauds happens worldwide at different levels and scales in the name of religion or dharma only which is obviously wrong.  Hence understanding of Dharma becomes highly essential.

Anyways, we all follow some rituals or customs in the name of dharma or religion but we all are actually naïve in actually understanding it.

So, WHAT EXACTLY dharma or religion is? Very simple!

“Propkaar Parmo Dharmah”, i.e. Service to the society or living for others wellness or thinking about others benefit and that too with NO SELF INTEREST is the biggest religion. Any action which gives ETERNAL peace to the MAXIMUM number of people or to the society as a whole is regarded in accordance with Dharma or religion.

But hold on guys, this is not the end of this Article nor the end of dharma’s meaning. So keep reading.

Sadly, in normal perception, people believe, something which is right in their perception is called Dharma or religion. Now whether that perception itself is right or wrong, that’s a different matter.

You know yesterday, I was walking on the road and I saw one car driver was turning his car wrongly in another lane, and while breaking the traffic rule himself, he was shouting at a cycle rider (who was in the correct lane), that “why don’t you move in the correct lane”. I know you all are shaking your heads as you all have seen such people.

In other words we all have our own set of right and wrongs and the rest is all scrap in our eyes. Isn’t!

Anyways, your eyes must be asking me, that Nikhil this we all know, but are there really any set of logical rules which can universally (or applicable to all in the same way) lead us on the path of Dharma or religion.

Yes dear, that’s why your friend Nikhil is writing this article. So coming straight to the point!

I will give you all the concepts through a story, so that learning could get easy for you.

There are 5 Heroes (along with some extra friends and enemies of our heroes) in this story, who protects the Dharma or religion and obviously if a story has, as many as 5 main heroes then there have to be many villains also. Right!

So let me first give you the names of all the characters in this story.

5 Main Heroes or 5 pillars of Dharma are:

  • Love (prem),
  • Knowledge (Gyan),
  • Patience (dhairya),
  • Justice (Nyaye)
  • Surrendering (samarpan)

Essential thing to note is that, each of these Heroes raises or compliments the power of each other. In other words your friend Nikhil is trying to say that if any of the above mentioned pillars gets established in your life style or karmas, then remaining pillars would also start getting established.

6 Main Villains or 6 enemies are:

  • Jealousy (Irshya),
  • Anger (Krodh),
  • Want /greed (Lobh),
  • Attraction (Moh),
  • Injustice (Anyaye)
  • Passion/Lust (Kaam),

Again essential thing to note is that, each of these enemies raises or compliments the power of each other. In other words your friend Nikhil is trying to say that if any of the above mentioned enemies gets space in your life style or karmas, then remaining enemies would also start getting entry in your life, since each one makes the path for the remaining ones.

Now what is the theme of the story?

So Simple, Villains will try to defeat the Heroes to Kidnap Dharma. Since dharma can never be killed, it can only be kidnapped.

Role of each Hero

  • Love (prem) Sustains or give stability or nourishment to our heart (Hriday)
  • Knowledge (Gyan) Sustains or give stability or nourishment to our intelligence (buddhi)
  • Patience (dhairya) Sustains or give stability or nourishment to our mind (mann)
  • Justice (Nyaye) Sustains or give stability or nourishment to our Soul (Atma)
  • Surrendering (samarpan) Sustains or give stability or nourishment to our Body (sharir)

Role of each Villain

  • Jealousy hurts our Heart (Hriday)
  • Anger (krodh) which also leads to Pride (Ahmahkar) hurts our intelligence (Buddhi)
  • Want/greed (lobh) and attraction (Moh) hurts our Mind (Mann)
  • Injustice (Anyaye) hurts our Soul (Atma)
  • Passion or lust (Kaam) hurts our Body (Sharir)

Great Friends of 5 main heroes:

  • Compassion (Karuna)
  • Hard work (Parishram)
  • Meditation (Dhyan or Tap)
  • Truth (Satya)
  • Trust (Vishwas)

Great friends of 6 main Villains:

  • Hatred (Ghradna)
  • Laziness (Aalasya)
  • Ignorance (Agyan)
  • False (Asatya)
  • Fear (Bhaye)

Roles of friends of Villains:

  • Hatred (Ghradna) hurts  Compassion (Karuna)
  • Laziness (Aalasya) hurts Hard work (or Parishram)
  • Ignorance (Agyan) hurts Meditation (Dhyan or Tap)
  • False (Asatya) hurts Truth (Satya)
  • Fear (Bhaye) hurts Trust (vishwas)

Roles of friends of Heroes:

  • Compassion (Karuna) supported by the feeling of Forgiveness (Shama), Sensitivity (sanvendansheelta), kindness (daya) is the base of love (Prem) which sustains our heart (Hriday)
  • Hard work (or Parishram) is the base of knowledge (Gyan) which sustains our intelligence (buddhi)
  • Meditation (Dhyan or Tap) is the base of patience (dhairya) which sustains our mind (mann)
  • Truth (Satya) is the base of Justice (nayaye) which sustains our soul (Atma).
  • Trust (vishwas) supported by the feeling of renunciation (Tyag) is the base of surrendering (samarpan) which sustains our body (Sharir).

In short, when our heart, intelligence, mind, soul and body get STABILIZED or are in strength and all enemies stands defeated, then we become ready to do Dharma or Propkaar (Service to society as a whole), the primary objective of our birth.

The very fact that through human body, we can help others or make difference in the lives of other people positively, distinguish us from animals. (Otherwise animals also eat, sleep and have sex). I hope your friend Nikhil is able to make things crystal clear for you all.

Now the question arises, what happens when dharma comes on our side!

Simple our deeds or actions or Karmas automatically gets sanctified or pure when dharma is on our side and as you all know, Karmas only forms or builds our destiny. Hence if you all wish to have a great destiny then you need to understand the words of your friend Nikhil and must try to walk on the path of Dharma.

Now coming to the Astrological (astrology) part of the above mentioned dynamics of Dharma:

 1.     In Astrology, Sun represent Soul (Atma) and Saturn represent Justice (Nyaye), I have mentioned above that Justice (Nyaye) gives stability to soul (Atma), hence influence of Saturn on Sun is MUST in a good chart (which facilitate dharma or good karmas).

 2.     In Astrology, Mercury represent intelligence (Buddhi) and Ketu represent supreme knowledge (Param Gyan), I have mentioned above that knowledge (Gyan) gives stability to intelligence (Buddhi), hence influence of Ketu on Mercury is MUST in a good chart (which facilitate dharma or good karmas).

 3.     In Astrology, Jupiter represent Jeeva or self or feelings or heart (Hriday) and Venus represent Love (Prem), I have mentioned above that Love (Prem) gives stability to heart (Hriday), hence influence of Venus on Jupiter is MUST in a good chart (which facilitate dharma or good karmas).

 4.     In Astrology, Mars represent body (Sharir) and Jupiter represent Surrendering (Samarpan), I have mentioned above that Surrendering (Samarpan) gives stability to body (Sharir), hence influence of Jupiter on mars is MUST in a good chart (which facilitate dharma or good karmas).

 5.     In Astrology, Moon represent Mind (Mann) and Saturn represent patience (Dhairya), I have mentioned above that patience (Dhairya) gives stability to Mind (Mann), hence influence of Saturn on moon is MUST in a good chart (which facilitate dharma or good karmas).

 6.     In Astrology, Rahu represent False, hence it must NOT establish any kind of link with Moon (Mind or Mann), Mercury (Intelligence or buddhi), Jupiter (Knowledge or Gyan) and Sun (Soul or Atma) (which facilitate dharma or good karmas).

Remember:

Establishment of connection between 2 planets could be through 5 ways (After considering D-1 chart and cusp chart BOTH):

1) Degree wise closeness or

2) In trine to each other or

3) Through powerful aspect or

4) Through sign exchange or

5) After applying the concept of retrograde

Steps which further facilitate our journey on the Path of Dharma or religion (serving society without any self interest):

a)    Stop the intake of Non Vegetarian food and take measured as well as nutritious vegetarian diet at correct times.

b)    Stop the intake of any kind of addictive substances (smoking, drugs, alcohol etc)

c)    Drink sufficient amount of water.

d)    Follow regular exercise regime like yoga etc

e)    Take proper sleep and follow the principle of early to bed, early to rise, makes a man, healthy, wealthy and wise.

f)     Stay, positive and motivated by appreciating and respecting, whatever good god has given you in life.

g)    Have faith in god.

Apart from the above, you must remember that, when someone eats non Vegetarian food then he/she is actually eating the pain which that animal must have felt, when that poor animal was slaughtered. Don’t express shock w.r.t the words of your friend Nikhil, just keep reading and understand things.

The basic food for our soul is:

a)     Air (which is called as prana) and

b)    The food we eat.

IT’S A VERY MAJOR CONCEPT, that FOOD ALSO CARRIES THE FEELINGS and EMOTIONS. Hence if you are eating a food which is prepared by a very lustful person, then after eating that food, you will immediately feel lot of lust.

In the same way, all non vegetarians, actually intake the qualities of those animals, Food is actually the food of our soul also; hence if you wish to keep your soul pure then you must avoid Non Vegetarian food as it has animal instincts of Lust, passion, anger etc.

Our ancient rishi’s have identified everything so minutely that we cannot even imagine.

We all say that the food prepared by our mother is the best food in the world, why? Because she gives us the food through lot of eternal love and our soul can feel that eternal love of our mother.

There was an old story in which a priest accidentally eats a food from the hands of a thief and the same day he developed an instinct of stealing a statue from the temple.

Remember, Elephant and horse are the most powerful among animals and they are vegetarians. No wars were fought, riding on the tigers. Horses and elephants were used for that, since their energies can be tamed. Untamed energy of tigers is useless. I am sure that you all will agree with your friend Nikhil.

So even energy wise, vegetarian diet is the best; Just like we say in astrology that 1 or 2 factors alone does not help, similarly people who say that this will give you protein, that will give you carbohydrates, they only take few factors into consideration instead of doing holistic analysis (which includes the impact of non Vegetarian food on our soul, anger, passion, jealousy etc.).

Vedas never permitted:

  • Mass slaughter
  • Factory killing
  • Killing for business
  • Killing for taste
  • Killing out of greed

According to Indian philosophy:

Food carries the consciousness (guna) of the source.

Whatever you eat:

  • Becomes your subtle energy
  • Influences mind (manas)
  • Influences prana
  • Influences your behavior

Tamasic food leads to:

  • Anger
  • Lust
  • Instability
  • Fear
  • Aggression

Rajasic food leads to:

  • Desire
  • Ambition
  • Restlessness

Satvik food leads to:

  • Calm mind
  • Better intuition
  • Lesser ego
  • More clarity

All meat is classified as tamasic by:

  • Bhagavad Gita
  • Ayurveda
  • Upanishads
  • Manusmriti
  • Puranas

Ayurveda states:

“Food retains the emotions present at the time of its creation.”

This includes:

  • love
  • fear
  • stress
  • pain
  • lust
  • anger

When an animal is slaughtered:

  • Cortisol rises
  • Adrenaline pumps
  • Tremendous fear is present

You ingest that fear + pain because the pranic body of the animal collapses in trauma.

This is the exact reason sages said:

  • “you are eating pain”
  • “you are eating fear”
  • “you are eating the karma of the animal”

Food prepared with emotion affects the eater

This is why:

Mother’s food tastes best, temple food (prasad) calms the mind. Food prepared by angry people feels “heavy” that’s why Crime-prone societies often have meat-heavy diets. Food transfers consciousness. This concept is called “Annapan Samskara” (transference of mental impressions from cook to consumer).

Animal instincts transfer through food (Ayurvedic + Yogic principle) carries the characteristics of:

  • The species
  • The emotions at death
  • The pranic quality

This is why warriors (kshatriyas) in ancient times consumed controlled amounts of meat for aggression in battlefield, but sages, brahmins, students, thinkers, healers were strictly satvik.

Some people argue that “Plants also have life, so eating plants is also violence”

Correct principle: Not all life-harm is equal.

Ancient Indian sages clearly distinguished between:

  • Jīva-himsa (killing sentient beings)
  • Anupādhika-himsa (harm to organisms without nervous system)

Plants have:

  • no brain
  • no pain receptors
  • no central nervous system
  • no subjective experience of suffering

Animals have:

  • pain receptors
  • fear response
  • nervous system
  • ability to suffer, panic, scream, resist

Therefore:

Violence is measured by suffering caused, not by mere biological life.

Some individuals even debate that “Plants feel pain, so vegetarian is same as killing animals.”

Science is clear that plants respond to stimuli but they do not experience pain

Pain requires brain + neural receptors + consciousness.

Plants lack all three.

It is like saying:

“Your computer makes a beeping sound, so it feels pain.”

Certain people even assert that “Milk belongs only to calves, so humans drinking milk is theft.”

This argument collapses under biology + history + logic.

Cows produce excess milk only when domesticated by humans. A wild cow produces milk only exactly enough for her calf. A domesticated cow produces 10–25 liters/day because:

  • selective breeding
  • nutrition
  • milking cycle

The calf cannot drink even 25–30% of that.

If human stops milking a cow it can lead to udder infection (mastitis). Therefore milking a domesticated cow is necessary, not exploitation.

Even veterinary science shows that cows must be milked to avoid pain, swelling, infection.

Indian traditional rule says that calf must drink first

Gauśāstra and Ayurveda say:

बालकमेव प्रथमं पाययेत् — The calf drinks first.

शेषं मानवभोजनम् — leftover is for humans.

So ancient India allowed milk consumption only when calf is fed fully

Cows and humans have co-evolved

Just like dogs evolved with humans, cows also evolved with human companionship for thousands of years.

So milk consumption is mutual benefit, not theft.

There are those who claim that “Fruit is meant for birds, so humans eating fruits is wrong.”

Fruits evolved BECAUSE animals eat them, Plants want fruit to be eaten, seeds are dispersed by animals, this increases plant survival, and hence it’s a symbiotic relationship. So fruit-eating is not violence, it is a part of plant evolutionary process

Fruit eating is the least violent diet on Earth

It does not involve killing of a plant. Humans only take the biological “gift” the plant creates.

That’s why ancient India called fruits:

“अहिंसाबलिः — non-violent food offering”

The basic principle is minimizing harm, not eliminate it. You cannot survive without harming some life forms. Even breathing kills microbes. So the ethical rule (from Mahabharata, Manusmriti, Jain Agamas) is: अहिंसा-परम-मात्रा — reduces violence to the minimum possible which is consistent with the survival.

Now understand that to produce 1 kg of meat, animals consume:

  • 8–12 kg plants
  • billions of insects die
  • land is cleared
  • many organisms killed indirectly

So vegetarian diet = 100x less killing than meat diet.

Some folks even contend that “If harming animals is wrong, why use cows for farming, dung, etc.?”

That’s because ancient Indian culture was based on mutualism (सामंजस्य), not exploitation (शोषण)

The cow receives:

  • food
  • protection
  • shelter
  • human companionship
  • calf protection
  • long life

Humans receive:

  • milk
  • dung
  • urine
  • bulls for agriculture
  • manure
  • village economy

This relationship reduces total killing in society.

Some scholars even debate that “In Ancient times too, humans used to eat meat?”

But they do not know that in the Ancient times meat consumption was:

  • Ritualistic
  • Sanctified with mantras
  • Involved a specific yajna context
  • With specific intent (not for taste)
  • Were not killed in fear

Whereas in Modern times meat consumption is:

  • Daily
  • For taste
  • With no ritual purification
  • With massive violence
  • With commercial slaughter
  • With high suffering and fear in the animal
  • Modern slaughtered meat is full of fear, pain, adrenaline, stress hormones

This single difference changes the dharma of food completely.

Many people may still ask for exact verses or shlokas given in our ancient scriptures which supports my views. So dear all, below I am listing so many references, shlokas or verses that you will ultimately get tired of reading all these proofs.

Even after reading all this, many non vegetarians will keep giving 10’s of illogical arguments, so for all such Illogical Arguments Commonly Given by Non-Vegetarians, here are the most appropriate and scientific answers.

  1. “Humans have canines, so we are meant to eat meat.”

This is a very common but scientifically incorrect claim.

Why illogical

Human canines are tiny, blunt, non-functional compared to carnivores.

Even herbivores (gorilla, horse) have bigger canines.

Human jaw moves side-to-side (for grinding), not front-back (tearing).

Our intestine length (7–8m) matches herbivores, not carnivores.

  1. “Our ancestors ate meat so we should also eat meat.”

Though I have already explained this above but still in continuation let me mention that:

Why it’s illogical

Ancestors also lived without electricity, medicines, plumbing — yet people won’t give those up.

Dharmashastras clearly say that śāstra, not habit, decides dharma.

An action done in scarcity or emergency is not the standard for normal life.

  1. “Plants also feel pain, so all eating is killing.”

Already discussed scientifically, above:

But the illogical extension some meat-eaters add is:

“Since plants have life, killing animals is same as cutting vegetables.”

Why illogical

Even if a vegetable has life, the degree of harm is infinitely lesser.

Killing one cow = killing thousands of plant lives (since plants also feed the cow).

If you care about “not harming plants,” you should avoid eating the animals who eat plants, not increase plant consumption.

  1. “Vegetarian diet is nutritionally inadequate.”

Claimed without evidence

Why illogical

All nutrients exist in vegetarian form (protein, iron, B12 via fortified sources, etc.)

World’s largest nutrition bodies confirm vegetarian diet can support all stages of life.

Elephants, bulls, horses, gorillas—all huge, muscular—eat plants.

  1. “Protein comes only from meat.”

Why illogical

India has more high-protein vegetarian options than western countries even know:

Dal, Rajma, Chole, Soybean, Paneer, Milk, Nuts, Seeds, Quinoa, Millets etc

WHO protein requirement is low and easily met with veg diet

1 cup of soy = more protein than 1 egg.

  1. “Meat is natural because humans are omnivores.”

Why illogical

Anatomically we are herbivore-leaning omnivores, not carnivores.

Nature gave us the ability to digest many things — including poison — but that doesn’t make it “good.”

Omnivore does not mean “should eat everything,” only “can survive if needed.”

  1. “Lions eat meat, so humans can too.”

Why illogical

Lions don’t cook their food.

Lions don’t boil milk, grow wheat, or meditate.

Dharma for humans ≠ dharma for animals.

Smritis say human dharma is governed by sattva, not tamas.

  1. “Meat is needed for strength.”

Why illogical

World heavyweight powerlifters, wrestlers, marathoners, and Olympic athletes are vegetarian/vegan.

Bodybuilders thrive on plant proteins.

  1. “If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why create them?”

Why illogical

By that logic:

“If God didn’t want us to kill humans, why create humans?”

Existence ≠ permission

Dharma Shastra explicitly categorizes animals into go-grāsa (meant to be protected) and āhāra (permitted only in emergencies).

  1. “If we don’t eat animals, they will overpopulate.”

Why illogical

Cows, goats, chickens do not overpopulate.

They reproduce heavily only because humans artificially breed them for meat.

If demand stops, supply stops.

Nature balances animal populations without slaughterhouses.

  1. “Killing a plant is same as killing an animal because both have life.”

I covered scientifically why it is wrong.

But logically:

Why illogical

Shastras differentiate between:

  • sthāvara jīva (immovable, plant)
  • trasa jīva (sentient animal with fear)

Killing a plant produces negligible karma compared to killing a cow or goat.

  1. “Modern dairy industry is cruel, so better to eat meat than drink milk.”

Why illogical

Meat industry = 100× more violent.

Ancient Indian milk model = cow fed first, calf allowed to drink fully.

Solution to dairy cruelty = ethical dairy, not switching to violence 100× bigger.

  1. “Everything is maya, so eating meat doesn’t matter.”

Why illogical

If “everything is maya,” why avoid murder, theft, adultery?

Dharma Shastra says that even in maya, karma exists.

“Maya hai” is used selectively only to justify taste addictions.

  1. “Food is food — body will digest anything.”

Why illogical

Body can digest poison, alcohol, and drugs too.

Digestibility ≠ purity

Ayurveda classifies meat as tamasika and rajasic — making mind restless.

  1. “Non-veg give heat in winter.”

Why illogical

This is not a necessity.

Many vegetarian foods (ginger, sesame, jaggery, millets, ghee) give natural warmth.

Meat giving “heat” is due to tamasic energy, not sattvic nourishment.

  1. “Humans dominate animals, so eating them is natural.”

Why illogical

By that logic, strong humans can eat weak humans.

Vedas emphasize dayā, karuṇā, ahiṁsā, not “might is right.”

  1. “Non-veg is needed for testosterone / masculinity.”

Why illogical

Research shows plant protein increases longevity and health.

High meat intake increases inflammation, not strength.

Bulls are fully vegetarian yet extremely masculine.

  1. “Vegetarians look weak.”

Why illogical

India’s greatest kings (Ashoka, Chandragupta, Vikramaditya) promoted vegetarian diets.

Wrestling akharas in India are almost fully vegetarian.

Gurkha and Sikh regiments have plant-dominant diets and are among the strongest soldiers.

  1. “Human brain evolved because of meat eating.”

Why illogical

This is a theory, not a fact.

More accepted theory now: brain grew due to cooked starch and tubers.

Vedas praise grains as prāṇa adhāra — primary source of energy.

  1. “If meat eating was wrong, God wouldn’t have made it tasty.”

Why illogical

By that logic, cigarettes and alcohol are also “right.”

Taste is a biological trap — not a moral signal.

Dharma says:

यत् सुखं तन्मया त्याज्यम्

“What is pleasurable but harmful must be given up.”

  1. Vitamin B12:

Claim: “Vegetarians can’t get B12 without meat.”

Fact:

B12 is produced by microorganisms, not animals. Animals get B12 from bacteria in soil and water.

Reliable vegetarian sources:

  • B12-fortified foods
  • Fortified milk
  • Fortified curd/yogurt
  • Fortified plant milks (soy/almond/oat)
  • Fortified cereals
  • Nutritional yeast (fortified)
  • B12 supplements (safe, inexpensive, widely recommended)
  1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA, DHA)

Claim: “EPA and DHA are found only in fish.”

Fact:

Plants give ALA, which the body converts to EPA & DHA.

And now we have direct vegetarian DHA from algae.

Vegetarian sources:

  • Flaxseed (best veg source)
  • Chia seeds
  • Walnuts
  • Hemp seeds
  • Canola oil
  • Algal oil supplements (pure vegetarian source of DHA)
  1. Iron (Heme Iron)

Claim: “Only meat has absorbable iron.”

Fact:

Veg foods have non-heme iron, and absorption increases 3–4× with Vitamin C.

Vegetarian iron sources:

  • Spinach, methi, bathua
  • Rajma, chole, masoor dal
  • Soybean & tofu
  • Jaggery (gud)
  • Pumpkin seeds / Sesame seeds
  • Millets (ragi, bajra)
  • Drumstick leaves (superfood iron)

Absorption becomes equal to meat when eaten with:

  • Lemon
  • Amla
  • Tomatoes
  • Guava
  1. Zinc

Claim: “Vegetarians lack zinc.”

Vegetarian zinc sources:

  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Sesame seeds
  • Cashews
  • Almonds
  • Chickpeas, lentils, rajma
  • Oats
  1. Iodine

Claim: “Vegetarians get iodine deficiency.”

Vegetarian sources:

  • Iodized salt (enough for entire day’s requirement)
  • Potatoes
  • Milk & curd
  • Seaweed (vegetarian)
  • Strawberries
  1. Calcium

Claim: “Milk is not enough, meat gives more strength.”

Vegetarian calcium sources:

  • Milk, curd, paneer
  • Sesame seeds (til)
  • Ragi (finger millet)
  • Almonds
  • Soybeans / tofu
  • Drumstick leaves
  • Broccoli, cabbage
  1. Vitamin D

Claim: “Vitamin D is found only in fish/eggs.

Fact:

Primary source of Vitamin D is sunlight, not food.

Vegetarian food sources:

  • Fortified milk
  • Fortified orange juice
  • Fortified cereals
  • Mushrooms exposed to sunlight
  1. Vitamin A (Retinol form)

Claim: “Vegetarians can’t get real Vitamin A (retinol).”

Fact:

Plants give beta-carotene, which the body efficiently converts.

Vegetarian sources:

  • Carrots
  • Sweet potato
  • Pumpkin
  • Mango
  • Spinach
  • Drumstick leaves
  1. Creatine

Claim: “Creatine comes only from meat; vegetarians lack strength.”

Fact:

Creatine is produced by the human body from amino acids.

Vegetarian boost sources:

  • Arginine-rich: peanuts, soybeans, pumpkin seeds
  • Glycine-rich: sesame, sunflower seeds
  • Methionine-rich: beans, nuts, oats

Vegetarians often have equal or higher endurance performance.

  1. Taurine

Claim: “Taurine is only in meat.”

Fact:

Taurine is synthesized by the body from methionine and cysteine.

Vegetarian support sources:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Soy products
  • Lentils
  • Almonds & walnuts

No dietary need for taurine.

  1. Carnitine

Claim: “Only meat has carnitine which burns fat.”

Fact:

Carnitine is produced by the liver & kidneys.

Vegetarian support sources:

  • Avocado
  • Whole wheat
  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Milk products
  1. Glycine

Claim: “Found only in meat / bone broth.”

Vegetarian sources:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Peanuts
  • Soybeans
  • Spinach
  • Cauliflower

The Bottom Line

There is NOT A SINGLE NUTRIENT that a vegetarian cannot get safely, reliably, and ethically—with modern food availability.

Most “nutrient arguments” used by non-vegetarians are:

  • Outdated
  • Based on Western myths
  • Ignoring modern fortified foods
  • Ignoring Ayurvedic and Indian vegetarian super foods

Finally, Below are AUTHENTIC SANSKRIT VERSES from the Vedas, Upanishads, Ayurveda, Smṛtis, and Itihāsas which clearly state that all essential nourishment (śarīra-puṣṭi, bala, ojas, tejas, āyus, medhā, prāṇa) comes abundantly from vegetarian foods—grains, pulses, fruits, vegetables, milk, ghee, and plant-based medicines.

These verses DO NOT promote meat, and explicitly describe vegetarian food groups as complete sources of strength, immunity, vitality, intellect, and longevity—i.e., the traditional equivalent of “all nutrients.”

VEDIC VERSES

(This verse defines complete nutrition through sattvic vegetarian foods.)

CONCLUSION FROM ALL TEXTS

Across Vedic, Ayurvedic, Dharmic, and Yogic literatures:

Vegetarian foods are repeatedly praised as:

  • Balya – Strength-giving
  • Ojaskara – Immunity-boosting
  • Ayushya – Life-prolonging
  • Medhya – Intellect-sharpening
  • Prāṇada – Life-giving
  • Dhātu-vardhana – Supporting all body tissues
  • Sattva-vardhana – Improving mental clarity & purity

This directly corresponds to modern nutrients:

  • Proteins → mamsa-dhātu utpatti
  • Fats → meda-dhātu
  • Vitamins & Minerals → rasa, rakta dhātu
  • Calcium → asthi-dhātu
  • Ojas & immunity → equivalent of micronutrients & antioxidants
  • DHA-like effects → medhā-janaka plant foods

Now imagine what would be the global impact in the scenario where all the Non vegetarians adopt the Vegetarian diet. You all must have this vital perspective too so that the entire picture is crystal clear

So, below is a concise, fact-based, data-driven estimate of what would happen to the planet if the entire world shifted from a meat-based diet to a vegetarian diet. These numbers come from FAO (UN Food & Agriculture Organization), IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), WHO, Oxford University Food Sustainability Project, World Resources Institute, and multiple meta-analyses.

(I will only provide the universally accepted numbers—no activist or biased sources.)

GLOBAL IMPACT IF EVERYONE BECAME VEGETARIAN

(Evidence-based, quantified, with figures)

  1. Greenhouse Gas Emissions – Drop by 60%

Livestock = 14.5% of all global emissions (FAO).

A global vegetarian shift would remove about 7.1 gigatons CO₂-equivalent per year.

Net effect:

~60% reduction in diet-related emissions

Equivalent to removing the emissions of the U.S., India, Russia, and Japan combined

  1. Land Use – 50–60% of Farmland Freed

Today:

77% of all agricultural land is used for livestock (grazing + feed).

Livestock provides only 18% of calories.

If the world goes vegetarian:

3 billion hectares of land become free (that’s the size of India + China + U.S. + EU combined)

This land could:

  • Restore forests
  • Increase biodiversity
  • Reduce desertification
  • Reduce soil erosion
  1. Global Freshwater Use – Reduced by 35%

Livestock uses:

  • 20% of all global freshwater
  • Beef needs 15,000 litres of water per kg
  • Vegetables need 300–400 litres per kg

Result of global vegetarianism:

35% decrease in total agricultural water use

Water saved = enough for 1.5 billion people annually

  1. Global Food Supply – Feed 1.2 to 3 Billion More People

Livestock consumes:

  • 36% of all global grain
  • 75% of global soy
  • 1/3rd of all fish catches are used for fish farming

If plant foods were fed to humans directly:

  • Global calories would increase by 70%
  • Enough to feed an extra 1.2 – 3 billion people (estimates differ by model)
  • Hunger would drop dramatically.
  1. Global Antibiotic Use – Reduced by 40–60%

73% of all antibiotics worldwide are used in livestock.

A veg diet removes:

  • Most antibiotic-resistant bacteria emerging from farms
  • A leading cause of future pandemics
  1. Global Healthcare Savings – $1.0 to 1.5 Trillion Per Year

Oxford University’s Global Diet Model estimates:

Vegetarian diets would save $1 trillion/year in healthcare costs

Because of reduced:

  • Heart disease (−30%)
  • Diabetes (−20%)
  • Cancers (−10–15%)
  • Obesity (−30%)
  1. Extinction of Species – Reduced by 25–40%

Animal agriculture drives:

  • 91% of Amazon deforestation
  • Majority of habitat loss

Vegetarian shift would:

  • Reduce extinction pressures by 25–40%
  • Allow rapid re-growth of forests
  • Restore biodiversity hotspots
  1. Ocean Recovery – Fisheries Rebound by 20–40%

If all fish consumption stops:

  • Marine fish stocks recover by 20–40% in 20 years
  • Coral reefs stabilize
  • “Dead zones” reduce by 50% due to less runoff from cattle farms
  1. Methane Emissions – Drop by 45%

Cattle = the world’s largest source of methane.

A global shift reduces:

  • 45% of agricultural methane
  • Equivalent to removing 100 million cars worth of climate impact every year
  1. Reduction in Global Violence to Animals – 90%

Current slaughter numbers per year:

  • 80 billion land animals
  • 7 trillion fish

A vegetarian shift reduces this to near zero.
