There is lot of confusions over these aspects in the minds of astrologers and beginners. So your friend Nikhil thought lets have a discussion on these parameters. I will try my level best to explain these with whatever limited knowledge I have. Generally all these concepts are part of Jaimini Astrology and when these concepts find their place and identification with Parashar methodology, confusion starts. It happens that even Astrologers fails to recognize the lead from where the analysis could be started
There are lots of parameters around one aspect i.e. SPOUSE, so It’s very important for us to have a clear distinction between all of them as all the concepts have their own relevance.
Few Factors considered are listed below:
- Venus—natural Sthira karaka for spouse.(as per Parashar).
- Darakaraka— natural charakaraka for spouse.(As per Jaimini)[The planet with the lowest degree when compared to other planets]
- Upa pad (Arudh of 12th house i.e. UL), Arudh pad of 7th house from it (AL7), 7th house from UL, 2nd house from UL (As per Jaimini)
- Arudh lagan, pad of 7th house from it(extension by modern astrologers), 7th house from AL(as per Jaimini), 2nd house from AL(as per Jaimini)
- 7th lord and house from lagan chart.( as per Parashar)
- 7th lord and house from navamsa chart.( as per Parashar)
- 7th lord and house from karakamsa chart.( as per Parashar)
- 7th lord and house from moon chart.( as per Parashar)
- 7th lord and house from Venus.(as per Parashar)
- Planetary aspects on above mentioned parameters.(as per Parashar).
- Strength of planets involved in above parameters.(as per Parashar).
All of the factors listed below have to say regarding the sustenance, longevity and stability of married life.
- Venus is a bhava karaka for the 7th house (as per Parashar) – will decide the SUSTAINABILITY of the 7th BHAVA itself hence its significations.
- In case of males, Venus is the karaka of wife and in case of males Mars is the karaka for husband.
- Venus is also the Sthira karaka (Lord shiva-destruction) for marriage and so have a major role to play in deciding the final DESTRUCTION of the marriage.(Again Longevity of the marriage).
- Venus is also the Naisargik karaka (Lord Brahma-creation) of the Beauty, marriage and luxury therefore initiation/CREATION of all these factors in our life would be governed by Venus.

Few other observations:
- 7th from UL, Represents the native itself.
- Darakaraka, also have to say about the the SPIRITUAL nature of the spouse, hence darakaraka is important.
- Relationship of darakaraka with Atmakarka will comment on the spiritual bond between the couple.(trikond and kendra relationship is good)
- 7th lord from moon have to say about your own DESIRE and WILL POWER, to sustain the married life.
- 7th house from moon has to say about your mental comfort level with the spouse.
- AL7 (pad of 7th house from lagan)-As per Jaimini, have to say about, how the world PERCEIVE about your spouse also, It will say that which aspect of spouse is dominant for you and the world.
- Relationship of Arudh lagan and darapad or AL7 (trikond, Kendra, 2nd, 11th are good) will say about how the world will perceive you as a couple. This is because AL is your perception and darapad is your spouse’s perception.
- Jaimini advice to see these things from Upa pad lagan, 2nd,7th and 11th houses from UL
- AL and AL7 relationship should be in Trikond,kendra,11th,2nd for a happy and stable married life. Analyse this relationship in all 4 charts i.e. D-1, Cusp, D-9 and D-60 charts, If this relationship comes out to be 6th/8th/12th in at least 2 charts out of 4 charts under focus, relationship would not be in harmony, otherwise it would be in harmony.
- Atmakarka and darakaraka relationship should be in Trikond,kendra,11th,2nd. Analyze this relationship in all 4 charts mentioned above. If this relationship comes out to be 6th/8th/12th in at least 2 charts out of 4 charts under focus, relationship would not be in harmony, otherwise it would be in harmony.
- Lagan lord and 7th lord relationship should be in Trikond,kendra,11th,2nd. Analyze this relationship in all 4 charts. If this relationship comes out to be 6th/8th/12th in at least 2 charts out of 3 charts under focus relationship would not be in harmony, otherwise it would be in harmony.
- IF out of the above 3 RELATIONSHIP PARAMETERS, the outcome of at least two is favorable then the relationship would be in harmony.
Darapad or AL7:
Darapad or AL7 in rashi chart shows that which aspect of native’s life is influenced by the spouse physically/materialistically. For example if dara pad falls in 2nd house – Spouse would primarily influence money, food and family aspect of the native. That influence would be positive if there are benefic parameters related to the 2nd house. In that condition, spouse would take care of family nicely, would be interested in cooking or eating healthy food, would bring money to the family. In case of malefic influences on 2nd house vice versa would happen.,
Take another example.
If darapad or AL7 falls in 4th house- spouse would primarily influence Happiness aspect of native’s life. That influence would be positive if there are benefic parameters related to the 4th house. In that condition, spouse would take care of house and mother nicely, would give sexual as well as emotional happiness to the native. In case of malefic influences on 4th house vice versa would happen.
One more example:
If darapad or AL7 falls in 9th house- spouse would primarily influence fortune/spiritual aspect of native’s life.That influence would be positive if there are benefic parameters related to the 9th house. In that condition , spouse would help in maintaining and supporting religion of the native, would bring fortune to the native, would be supportive to the native’s father.
In case of malefic influences on 9th house vice versa would happen. THOUGH I BELIEVE THAT ARUDH CONCEPTS SHOULD NOT BE USED IN D CHART’s, APART FROM navamsa chart (as it specifically deals with spouse) and Shatyamsa chart but still many astrologer do apply the concepts of Arudh in other D charts.
