Houses, Planets and Body parts

Friends, this is the 115th article of your friend Nikhil and trust me after decades of experience in this field, I now realized that forget about the beginners but even established astrologers are confused, when it comes to one of most basic topics of Astrology i.e. “Planets, Houses and Body parts”. I even found that most of the websites on internet are also spreading confusion on this topic. Frankly speaking, your friend Nikhil was astonished to see that the concepts which are most basic in nature are surrounded by the maximum level of uncertainty. This state of affairs is really unfortunate for the growth of Astrological science as a whole. Anyways, I will now clear all the possible dust around this topic so that every beginner as well as even an established Astrologer has the utmost clarity on this topic.

Before starting with the concept listing process, please REMEMBER that following concepts has to be applied as per the CUSP CHART and NOT lagan chart. In short, the cusp corresponding to each of the 12 houses must be divided into 3 equal parts and then the following concepts should be applied. For example if a length of a cusp is 24 degree, then each part would be of 8 degrees, if a cusp length is of 15 degrees then each part would be of 5 degrees, if a cusp length is of 51 degrees, then each part would be of 17 degrees. If the cusp length is not divisible by 3 then derive the length of each part in both degrees and minutes (1 degree= 60 minutes). So suppose, if the cusp length is 34 degrees, then each part would be of 11 degrees and 20 minutes.

Currently, for your easy understanding, I am assuming that each cusp is of 30 degrees, that’s why dividing 30 by 3 will give me each part of 10 degrees.

Now, let’s begin with the concepts.

1st house (Use 1st Cusp):

  1. Head (0-10 degrees)
  2. Neck (11-20 degrees)
  3. Pelvis (21-30 degrees)

2nd house (Use 2nd Cusp):

  1. Right Eye (0-10 degrees)
  2. Right Shoulder (11-20 degrees)
  3. Reproductive or generative organ (21-30 degrees)

3rd house (Use 3rd Cusp):

  1. Right Ear (0-10 degrees)
  2. Right Arm (11-20 degrees)
  3. Right Testicle/Ovary (21-30 degrees)

4th house (Use 4th Cusp):

  1. Right Nostril (0-10 degrees)
  2. Right side Ribs (11-20 degrees)
  3. Right Thigh (21-30 degrees)

5th house (Use 5th Cusp):

  1. Right Cheek (0-10 degrees)
  2. Right side of the Chest (11-20 degrees)

Please note, the chest is the part of your body between your neck and your abdomen (belly). The medical term for your chest is thorax. Chest includes the following:

  • Esophagus, the tube between your mouth and stomach
  • Trachea, your windpipe
  • Bronchi, the tubes that carry air from your windpipe to your lungs
  • Lungs
  • Breast
  • Pleura, a thin layer of tissue that covers the lungs and lines the inside wall of the chest space
  • Heart and large blood vessels
  • Thymus, a gland that’s part of your immune system

3. Right Knee (21-30 degrees)

6th house (Use 6th Cusp):

  1. Right Jaw (0-10 degrees)
  2. Right side of the Belly or Abdomen (11-20 degrees)

Please note, Belly or abdomen is that part of the body that contains all of the structures between the chest and the pelvis. The belly (or abdomen) is separated anatomically from the chest by the diaphragm, the powerful muscle spanning the body cavity below the lungs. The belly or abdomen contains a host of organs including:

  • Stomach
  • Intestine
  • Colon
  • Rectum
  • Liver
  • Spleen
  • Pancreas
  • Kidneys
  • Appendix
  • Gallbladder
  • Bladder

3. Right Calf (21-30 degrees)

7th house (Use 7th Cusp):

  1. Mouth (0-10 degrees)
  2. Navel (11-20 degrees)
  3. Feet (21-30 degrees)

8th house (Use 8th Cusp):

  1. Left Jaw (0-10 degrees)
  2. Left side of the Belly or Abdomen (11-20 degrees)

  • Bladder

3. Left Calf (21-30 degrees)

9th house (Use 9th Cusp):

  1. Left Cheek (0-10 degrees)
  2. Left side of the Chest (11-20 degrees)

3. Left Knee (21-30 degrees)

10th house (Use 10th Cusp):

  1. Left Nostril (0-10 degrees)
  2. Left side Ribs (11-20 degrees)
  3. Left Thigh (21-30 degrees)

11th house (Use 11th Cusp):

  1. Left Ear (0-10 degrees)
  2. Left Arm (11-20 degrees)
  3. Left Testicle/Ovary (21-30 degrees)

12th house (Use 12th Cusp):

  1. Left Eye (0-10 degrees)
  2. Left Shoulder (11-20 degrees)
  3. Anal (21-30 degrees)

Please note for Spinal cord: 1st, 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th houses has to be seen collectively.

  • Part of spinal cord corresponding to the back side of your neck (Cervical spine, C1-C7): 1st house
  • Right side of the spinal cord corresponding to the back side of your right side chest (Thoracic spine, T1-T12): 5th house
  • Right side of the spinal cord corresponding to the back side of your right side belly or abdomen (Lumbar spine, L1-L5): 6th house
  • Left side of the spinal cord corresponding to the back side of your left side belly or abdomen (Lumbar spine, L1-L5): 8th house
  • Left side of the spinal cord corresponding to the back side of your left side chest (Thoracic spine, T1-T12): 9th house

Here please note that Mars is the Karaka Planet for Spinal Cord. Sun governs over the bone framework, Saturn gives the endurance and load-bearing capacity hence governs over load bearing bones/parts like knees, heel, feet, forelegs and buttocks, but the spinal cord is unique: yes, it is a bony structure (Sun), and yes, it bears load (Saturn), but its core role of the spinal cord is dynamic protection and transmission—it enables movement, posture shifts, reflexes, and rapid signal flow. This dynamic, reactive, and protective function is purely Martian. Mars governs action, impulse, neuromuscular response, and the body’s ability to react instantly, which is exactly what the spinal cord does—carry signals for movement and reflex before even the brain processes them. Mars gives the spine its active life—its ability to move, respond, and protect under stress. That’s why Nadi assigns Mars as the primary karaka of spinal cord: not because the spine is a bone, but because it is a living, reactive axis of action, which is Mars’ domain.

Saturn represents: Structure, Hardness, Aging Degeneration, Peripheral parts of body, Lower half of body. Now notice something: Sun = Center, Saturn = Periphery. Extended bones like: Heel, Knees, Feet, Chin, Buttocks are all: Weight-bearing, Structural Mechanical stress areas, End-point skeletal parts. Saturn rules: Burden, Pressure, Chronic wear & tearSo Nadi Astrology logic says: Sun gives bones their life. Saturn makes them bear karma. That is why functional skeletal suffering is often Saturn-related. Sun governs: Bone vitality, Skeletal authority. Saturn governs: Knees (support system), Ankles (balance), Heel (impact absorption) Chin (lower jaw extension), Buttocks (sitting pressure). All are: Load-bearing, Mechanical, End structures. Saturn rules: Gravity, Compression, Hardness and Dryness. These are qualities directly linked with joint degeneration and extended bones. Philosophical Angle: Sun = Atma (soul center), Saturn = Karma (burden carrier). Bones represent: Structure of life, Responsibility, Support system. The outer framework (Saturn) carries what the inner vitality (Sun) creates. So if: Sun weak → weak bones constitutionally. Saturn afflicted → pain in knees, heels, joints.

Here also understand that, Mercury govern the nervous system, but specifically the brain-based intelligence, signaling accuracy, coordination, and interpretation—basically the software and communication aspect of nerves. It handles how signals are processed, understood, and coordinated (like fine motor skills, speech, thinking, etc.). But the spinal cord is not primarily about intelligence or interpretation—it is about rapid action and reflex. It triggers instant responses (like pulling your hand away from heat) even before the brain processes it. This kind of raw, instinctive, survival-driven response is purely Martian in nature. Mars governs reflexes, reaction speed, physical impulse, and defensive action, which is exactly what the spinal cord does at its core. So in short: Mercury = signal processing, coordination, intelligence (brain & nerves as communication system), Mars = reflex action, immediate response, physical execution (spinal cord as action axis). That’s why Nadi astrology gives the spinal cord to Mars—not Mercury.
